Analysis of New in Game Halo 4 Screen

There's been a bit of chatter about this shot so I thought I'd give my two pence worth.

First port of call is that rainbow vignetting, a lot of folks have speculated on this, is it an AA? is it shield damage? is it health damage? etc. Well, no, it's none of those. In this shot from the Halo 4 First Look vidoc, we can see the same effect but not from player-cam. From this I assume it's an effect caused by the lighting in this area, possibly that big ring thing in the middle of the image.

This is taken from 2:36 in this video.
Next up is the arrow on the radar, now this is a little more interesting as it doesn't appear on the radar in the First Look gameplay video.

This is genuinely interesting as it's not something we've seen on a Halo radar before. It's not in the centre and it's red so I don't think it's to do with the player. In the shot from First Look we see a much more traditional approach to the radar. It's also weird that the Spartan we see jumping towards us doesn't show up as either a friend or foe on the radar. I haven't got a clue what this is, any suggestions?

This is a fairly obvious one, and one that was spotted in the First Look video:

Three grenade types, presumably Frag, Plasma and new grenade (forerunner?) from left to right. This is pure conjecture on my part, but I'd love a grenade with a large area of affect that took shields off, but couldn't kill. Like the power drainer in Halo 3.

This must be a new Armour Ability. Looks like a box inside a see through box, so I'm going to have to suggest it's the icon for X-ray specs announced in the Game Informer article.

There's an icon over the score that we've not seen before:

When comparing this shot with the First Look video I'd speculate that the icon (> <) just means there's no time limit on this game as it's in the same place as the timer in the video. Also (><) looks a bit like an infinity symbol:

We also get a good look at the DMR, though I'm sure everyone has noticed that.

There's no visible reticle in this shot, but I'm sure that won't be the case in the final game. Unless you have to unlock the reticle with Spartan Points? /troll

- Cowboy Out.

  1. Good speculation. I hadn't thought of the >< like that before.
That arrow is also doing my head in. I have no idea what it could be, but I think it might be related to the weapon drops.

  2. The arrow is probably just an idication that the blue guy (enemy) is above and to the left of the player

  3. I think that what we are seeing is the forerunner vision. Perhaps when it is active you cannot see teammates(blue guy) but you can see the location and direction of an enemy on your radar (red guy on lower level)?

    1. The Arrow on the Radar is interesting. Maybe it's to do with one of the purchasable upgrades? Could possibly indicate the direction an enemy is facing?

The less fancy possibility is it's the new way of indicating a players elevation.
