Halo 4 - "Feels like Home"

343industries just announced what you may have already heard elsewhere on the net: Halo 3's Valhalla is being remade in Halo 4 and is titled "Ragnarok".

I tweeted on Wednesday whilst playing that it "felt like home" and I stand by that summation, this is a very accurate remake, the man cannons have a similar launch speed and jump distance, the hill is the same height, the crashed pelican has the same topography. The addition of sprint of course means that you can move around faster, but this didn't seem to change the map too much. With 8 v 8 you wouldn't usually be that far from a fight anyway, so the ability to sprint isn't something you'll often use - you'll be more inclined to start pumping lead into the enemy team. I imagine it will have more of an impact with smaller teams, but that wasn't something I got to try.



I spoke to Frankie during the event and he explained that the only changes they've made to map layout are some very minor tweaks to the widths of some gaps to allow the Mantis to move more freely.

  1. I'm glad to see that they are bringing a great map back. The addition of the Mantis also looks like it will change the flow of the map completely and I definitely can't wait to play this game!

  2. It's a great looking remake but I wish they'd bring back a map that we actually have been demanding. Relic, Terminal, Containment, Waterworks..... you know? Why Valhalla of all maps? At least change the look and feel 343i. This just comes over as lazy and cutting corners.

  3. I demand Guardian! Although this does look pretty sick, I can't wait to see the way the mantis effects gameplay and I'm interested to see what options we'll have in forge for this map.
