Err.. yeah. This represents a significant shift in tone compared to the two previous Forerunner books and indeed the Silentium cover that was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con this year:
The cover from SDCC, fits much better with the visual themes of scale and wonder we seen in Cryptum and Primordium and is a much better match for the style of story that Greg Bear tells.
I don't think painting the Didact as this out-and-out villain really makes much sense either in the context of the first two books. Halo doesn't need it, the Prophets were our antagonists previously, but they never looked evil, they carried themselves with grace and stoicism. The Arbiter never looked evil either. Personally, I don't feel that Halo needs a Disney style bad guy.
